Sports Docs - A Hit for Six!!!
The Adelaide Film Festival is delighted to announce that Sports Docs, once again presented by Telstra, will be back in 2007, fitter and stronger than ever. This program showcases the most exciting sports documentaries made in the last twelve months and was a complete sell out at the 2005 Adelaide Film Festival.
The 2007 program year looks set to do the same with some sensational films already confirmed in the program including:
ZIDANE – a 20th Century portrait
Douglas Gordon, Philippe Parreno / France / 2006 / 91 min
'The finest film at Cannes' - The Observer
A fascinating study of the French footballer Zinédine Zidane. For 92 minutes we watch him playing an entire game (against Villareal), with 17 cameras trained exclusively on Zidane. We see him, and no one else. Directed by Turner prize winning artist Douglas Gordon and French artist Philippe Parreno with a fantastic soundtrack by Mogwai, this film is more than documentary – it is a work of art.
A Sunday in Hell: Paris-Roubaix 1976
Jorgen Leth/ Denmark/ 1976/ 111 min
Considered one of the best cycling films ever made, Jorgen Leth’s A Sunday in Hell focuses on the 1976 Paris-Roubaix single-day bike race which is ridden entirely over cobblestones. Featuring many of the cycling greats including Merckx, Moser, De Vlaeminck and Maertens and shot with 20 cameras and a helicopter, this is a masterpiece of cycling cinematography.
Film lovers should start training now for the 10 day film going marathon that is the Adelaide Film Festival. Sports Docs proudly presented by Telstra.
