AFF Youth Student Jury Announcement

The Adelaide Film Festival (AFF) has announced the Jury for the AFF Youth screening program – 9 young aspiring film critics and film-makers from across the State.

The AFF Youth Student Jury will have the opportunity to participate in the full film festival experience, judging the 60 Australian and international films in the screening program, while the Statewide Schools Filmmaking Competition finalists will see their films on the big screen and attend a Red Carpet Gala Premiere with AFF Youth Patron Tilda Cobham-Hervey.

Jury members come from across Adelaide, from the outer north to the outer south, beachside and inner city, as well as from regional SA. Schools represented include Craigmore and Brighton High as well as St Martin's Lutheran College, Our Lady of the Sacred Heart, Tyndale Christian School and Pembroke. They are Lilia, Jasper, Andrea, Cody, Ryza, Elijah, Loraine, Leah & August.

Elijah, in his application to be a Jury member, sums up the attitude of this inspiring group of young South Australians: “I applied for the AFF Youth Jury because I love watching films and seeing what creative things other people can produce. I hope to gain experience, make contacts, and get ideas for filmmaking. Having never participated in something like this before, I think it will be a great learning experience,” he says.

John Gardner, MP, Minister for Education, said: “I’d like to congratulate these aspiring young film critics and filmmakers. It is an extraordinarily exciting time to be a part of the screen industry in South Australia with the producers of global productions choosing to film right here in our state. The AFF Youth program provides a wonderful opportunity for students to learn and explore potential career pathways in this field and I thank those experienced screen professionals who are giving back to the film industry through this festival.”

Minister for Innovation and Skills David Pisoni offered his congratulations to the Adelaide Film Festival on the AFF Youth Program: “The Marshall Government is proud to support this exciting new initiative which supports young South Australians to aspire to rewarding careers in screen industry.”
