Direct from Venice Film Festival, See New Coen Brothers Film 'The Ballad of Buster Scruggs' At ADLFF

How the West Was Won (more or less)

Fresh from its world premiere at Venice Film Festival, The Ballad of Buster Scruggs is on its way to the cinematic saloon of Adelaide Film Festival.

It's a six-part anthology of tales from the old west and features a singing cowboy, actors in a travelling show, bumbling bank robbers, gold prospectors and claim jumpers, a gal on a wagon train and passengers on a stagecoach hurtling their way to heaven-knows-where. Tickets are available now!

Here are three reasons we can't wait to see it.

It's made by the Coen brothers

Their name precedes them: Joel and Ethan Coen are true visionaries, being the filmmakers behind Fargo, Inside Llewyn Davis, The Big Lebowski, No Country for Old Men and True Grit - and that's just to name a few of their acclaimed titles.

They famously write, direct and produce their films together, in one of the best sibling collaborations in the arts today.

The cast

You'll see more than a handful of famous faces in The Ballad of Buster Scruggs. James Franco, Tom Waits, Zoe Kazan, Brendan Gleeson, Liam Neeson, Tyne Daly and Tim Blake Nelson all count themselves as cast members.

It's getting plenty of buzz

It took home the Best Screenplay Award at this year's Venice Film Festival, and it's been described as a work "set for Oscar season" that shows a "commitment to the genre" of the old-school Western, with performances that "are polished to a gleam." High praise.

Tickets to The Ballad of Buster Scruggs are available now.
