Maya, Give Me a Title

Michel Gondry writes features, makes the coolest videos, and has the cutest daughter in the universe. He phones her every evening, and asks “Maya, give me a title,” then creates low-tech animations like Maya in the sea with a bottle of ketchup. Maya’s fantastic voyages will have the little ones dreaming, and the grown-ups smiling.

What a guy Michel Gondry is! He writes Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind; he makes the coolest videos with the coolest people, like Bjork, The White Stripes and Daft Punk. He drummed in a rock band, and he has perhaps the cutest daughter in the known universe.

But Maya and her dad live in two different countries, so in order to stay in touch, her dad phones her every evening, and asks “Maya, give me a title”. Based on her answer, he creates a short animated reply in which Maya is the hero: Maya and the earthquake, Maya in the sea with a bottle of ketchup, Maya the policewoman and the three cats. All this is done with the most low-tech materials, such as paper and scissors. Michel Gondry has always retained the childlike attitude that your imagination is the most important thing you possess. Join Maya and him on an amusing journey that will have the little ones dreaming ... and the grown-ups smiling.
