In the depths of the pandemic, artist-activists Hilary Powell and Dan Edelstyn decide that instead of power bills going through the roof, power should come off the roof. They launch a grassroots plan to turn every building in their street into a power station through the installation of solar panels.

Their turbulent journey will include meetings in hard hats, the invention of a new currency, putting the bed on the roof, smoke bombs, a hit pop single, and even a royal visit. It’s an enchanting utopian recipe; take a community, mix in some vision and energy, add just a dash of British eccentricity, and the result is everyday magic. In the end a thousand flowers will bloom. By turns funny and heartwarming, Powell and Edelstyn’s film is a vibrant portrait of their local neighbourhood and a charming testament to the power of art in changing minds about what could be possible.

This is how change happens. Power to the people!

Only on Earth

A holistic documentary on wildfires and wild horses. Robin Petré stares long and hard at the rhythms of social life in Spanish Galicia that revolve around the horses, living with fire, even the way kids play. If we’re going to save the earth, we need to look closely at it.
Orwell: 2+2=5

Orwell: 2+2=5

Orwell was not just a writer who chronicled the past, but a thinker who understood and presaged the creeping totalitarianism of the present. Raoul Peck’s biographical study is an insightful analysis targeting the demagoguery, the organised lying and the surveillance technologies that constitute the weapons wielded by the thought police of 2025.
